Late Resolutions

So last night I went over my budget with my boyfriend. Last year, I decided to start a pretty detailed budget so that I could pay of my debts faster and easier, and just to stay more organized. It helped a lot, especially with Christmas. So we figured out whether or not we could afford a vacation (I can't, he can), if we could afford to move closer to NYC (I can't, he can), and if I can get my credit cards paid off by the end of the year (nope.) So needless to say, by the time I was done with my budget, I was pretty depressed.

See, I had this job: great benefits, paid vacay, sick days and I was even supposed to be salary by Feb of this year. It was your typical 9-5. Unfortunately, I'm not the typical 9-5 girl. I had finishes cosmetology school the year before (in another state, I moved to Jersey about a year ago) and had yet to get my cosmetology license. So I decided, with the support from my wonderful boyfriend, that I would quit my stable job to look for a job in a salon so I could get in with the industry before taking my test. I was offered a receptionist position at a salon/spa- 40 hrs a week with a pay just a $1 short of what I was making in my 9-5. It was perfect! I knew I would have to work Saturdays, but I was fine with that. Well, the recession came, my hours were cut, and I was left searching for a second job.

So to make this long story even a little longer. I am working 2 jobs, not making nearly as much as I was 6 months ago, and now I want to be a baker. Oye! Why do I do this to myself? Well, I have decided that I am going to finish what I started and get my cosmetology license. Then I can work in a salon while I go to school to learn to bake even better than I already do. Once that is done, I'm going to start my own bakery. Is that crazy? Too over the top? I am The Dreamer you know?

Now, back to my topic I was originally going to talk about: I came up with some New Years Resolutions to help me get my life in order and stay on track to becoming a hairdresser/baker.
These are in no particular order:

  • Less Myspace/Facebook appearances (I check it about 5 times a day. This should be reduced to about 1-2 times a day, no more than 15 min on each)
  • Blog daily, but only once a day
  • Study at least 15 minutes each day for my State Board exam
  • Bake once a week
  • Lose 5lbs (ok, so it doesn't have much to with my goals, but just go with it)
  • Stay active- more cleaning, organizing, running errands
  • Pamper myself at least once a month (gotta do something for myself here!)
I think that will keep me busy! What are your New Years Resolutions?

Childhood Dreams

When I was five I wanted to be so many things: a vetrinarian, a singer/actress, a teacher, an astronaut. Well, almost ten years later and I still can name at least three things I want to be: a phtographer, a hairstylist, a baker. How does anyone know what they want to be in life? How does one person choose that one occupation that they will spend at least 40 hours a week doing for the next 40 years until they retire? This whole concept baffles me. As soon as I figure out what I want to do with my life, I find something else that sounds more fun and exciting.

I didn't really start this blog to teach anyone anything. I started it for my own sake; so I can read over my thought and see how much I actually jump around with my career and my life. And I'm hoping that people can get a good laugh out of how ridiculous my confusion really is! Any comments/ideas would be greatly appreciated.

More next time...
